Hawaii or Cabo San Lucas? ?

william f asked:

I want to take a trip in late Januay/early February with my girlfriend somewhere nice and warm. I’m thinking I’d like to go to one of these two places. I’ve never been to either one. I want to stay in a decent resort somewhere near a nice beach. I’m looking for a more relaxing trip rather than just partying. Which place would have more to do? Is one more affordable than the other?

I have never been to Cabo but I’m sure there is much much more to do in Hawaii. Choose your island in Hawaii…they are all beautiful with fantastic beaches in all price ranges…It is a longer plane ride but well worth it!!!

I’ve been to both. First Hawaii, very expensive but very clean. Waikii beach is awesome, snorkeling is great in many places. Very romantic just because it’s Hawaii. Be careful though, if you rent a car the locals see you as a target and you can easily get robbed. I’ve stayed at the Hilton on Waikiki and it was nice but again expensive. Maui is very laid back, hotels are alittle more worn. In Lahaina I learned to surf (at 50 mind you) and there is alot of shopping. Would I go back, sure, if my budget can afford it.

Cabo. Ok it’s mexico. Unfortunately in mexico things aren’t as clean as they are in the USA, but if you want to drink and party be sure to stop at the Cabo Wabo bar (Sammy Hagar’s place). It’s way cheaper to get there and stay there. We stayed at the Pueblo Bonita and it is absolutely fantastic. Very zen. Adults only. Can’t use the beaches though as the tides are too rough but the pools are awesome. Shopping is cheap and you can get some great deals. People are fantastic. Very friendly as they want you dinero. Oh and you have to go to a place called “The Office” on the beach in Cabo. Have dinner and drink your heart out. I’m sure my picture is in the Banditos book of women (won’t tell you what I showed him but you can guess what it took to get in the book). anyway, I will definately go back to Cabo as well.

Both are nice, in these economic times though you might want to spend American…however your best deal will be in Cabo.

Have a great time, romance the heck outta your girl…and buy her something really special.

Hola! Thats a tough one, but a question that is often asked. I’m on the fence, even though I live here in Cabo and love it. I guess what the problem is, is alot of people come to Mexico with the expectation of it being like the USA standard wise. Of course, it doesn’t always live up to that expectation….at least if you stay in the USA (by going to Hawaii) you know what you are going to get. Saying that, Cabo is a desert landscape, sand and cactus and the bluest waters you will ever see. Its beautiful. So is Hawaii, but it is more lush and green and tropical. Pricewise, Cabo is the most expensive resort town in Mexico…but it may cost slightly less than Hawaii.

We have lots of resorts here in Cabo that are very nice. I recommend any first-timers to stay in an all-inclusive so they don’t have to worry about food and activities etc I personally like San Jose del Cabo better than Cabo San Lucas…they are about 20 minutes apart. SJD is the quainter, colonial type town, and Cabo is the nightclubs and parties, traffic and noise. Beaches near both are endless. Most of the resorts are on their own private beach. Look into the Royal Solaris, Crowne Plaza, Costa Azul for SJD, and maybe the Riu Sante Fe or Palace for CSL. Like I said there are tons of even nicer resorts, but you must shell out a few more bucks for those (Palmilla, Marquis, Melia, etc)

well.. i guess it depends on what island in hawaii you want to go to.. waikiki (oahu) and cabo are both party spots.. but you can also relax there as well.. i suggest you do research on each island (in hawaii) and see which is best for you and your girlfriend.. try to find a deal too

i prefer the beach in cabo because the sand is a lot softer.. plus there are plenty of things you can do there (jetski, parasailing, etc.)

i tried walking along waikiki beach and you’re basically stepping on tiny rocks.. it was painful lol.. although there is still beautiful scenery there (diamond head)

there is also another beach called lanikai beach (on the east side of oahu) that was rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world).. i went there two years ago and it felt like a dream seeing that place

i’ve never been to kauai but i have heard nothing but good things about that island as well.. it’s less touristy and private.. and there are plenty of activities you can do there (kayak, hike, etc..).. i definitely plan on visiting this island within the next year or two

the big island (kona) was okay.. kinda boring to me (but i did go w/ my family years ago).. most of the island is basically lava rocks.. but i’m sure there are some nice resorts out there.. i think we stayed in a time share (that was years ago so i barely remember)

haven’t been to maui.. but i heard it’s nice over there as well

just came from cabo a week and a half ago.. love it there.. love the people.. but **** the time share pushers
