Kauai is very country, so if you would like to experience a vacation like that, then Kauai is for you. If you are looking for kid friendly activities, there are plenty for both, but Oahu will offer some more traditional activities. Zoo, Aquarium, Discovery Center, Polynesian Cultural Center, etc.

Halekulani and Kahala are both nice and with beach access. Kahala is not near Waikiki and you would need a car to get to Waikiki if you needed. Aside from the hotel restaurant, there are none nearby. Halekulani is located in Waikiki, and there are plenty places to go, shop, and eat from there.

Kahala Resort is very serene and great ,but the halekulani is very fun for children because it is close to the beach! Honolulu is better in my opinion very kid friendly and fun for kids! the streets of waikiki are fun with lots of exciting things! Athough it can get very crowded so hold hands with your kid all times!

I like Oahu but we all have are individual tastes. Since you are interested in your child why not invest in a remedial literacy course instead of the vacation. Years later the child will benefit beyond all expectations.

Well, it all depends on what you want. Oahu has a lot to do - it is tourist central, especially in Waikiki. So you'll find a lot to engage your 4-year-old with - sights and activities. Kauai is more serene, relaxing. I mean, I'm sure there are things to do, but there is more emphasis on relaxing and enjoying than on "doing". So it really depends on what you want to focus your vacation on.

<a href=""></a>

they are completely different. Let me ask you, do you like hiking more or stores/crowded beaches more? Kauai is more open with hiking but Oahu has more urban style beaches and high-rises in Honolulu and Waikiki. The north shore is probably calm this time of year...but very stormy with big waves during the winter.
