Should I have a Hawaiian wedding at a resort or another location?

I’ve got a million ideas for a destination wedding (a small, intimate one in maybe Maui or Oahu), but really don’t know where to start!

Since I’ve never been to Hawaii before, should I choose a resort with a wedding coordinator and do the wedding that way or should I pick my “honeymoon” hotel to stay in and just hire a coordinator to help with a wedding in a beach/garden setting somewhere else?
Any recommendations on who to call???

You might want to check this web site out:…
Weddings Oahu
I like this Hotel, its in a good location, next to a supermarket(food pantry) across the street from Denneys (24hr) and the international market place, from kuhio street. It’s reasonable. It’s no right on the beach, little walk to beach. If you want to spend more money you could stay at the Beachkomber hotel right across from waikiki beach.
Free hawaiian show almost every evening in the food court of the international market place.
also the Alamoana Shopping center has shows about noon most days, and a huge food court.
Ohana west Hotel…
Beachcomber Hotel…
Pacific beach Hotel a little expensive, check out the dinning. fancy buffet with a large inside Oceanarium Restaurant

One my friends got married on the beach on one of the hotels in the Waikoloa Village on the Big Island. They had a wedding coordinator to help out via the hotel and from what I heard, it was worth it. The advantage of using the hotel’s coordinator is that that person has an “in” with the hotel staff and will have pull to fix or change things you don’t like.
The nice thing for guests attending the wedding and if they’re staying at the hotel where the wedding is at, is that they can get blitzed at the reception and not have to drive (just walk to their rooms). Trust me, at my friend’s wedding that was a HUGE advantage. hehe…
It was really cool to dance on the beach with your shoes off (warn your guests in advance if your reception will be on the beach so they don’t mess up their dress shoes or wear something they don’t mind getting sand in).

My husband and I did the same. We went to Oahu (perfect mix of nightlife and touristy stuff to do, and if you get out of the downtown Honolulu/Waikiki area, beautiful scenery and relaxation). We rented a condo rather than staying in a resort, and went with the wedding planners of. They were super friendly and walked us through everything start to finish, including things we hadn’t even thought of. They have lots of locations to pick from, or choose your own. They have packages for every budget. And the photos were phenomenal. Best of luck, congratulations, and ALOHA!
