Travel Advice in Hawaii?
merrieishott asked:
My fam and I are going to Hawaii July 1st and I was wondering if anyone had an travel tips for us. It is my parents (over 50), me (21), bro (23), sis (19). We are staying 4 nights in Oahu (Waikiki Beach), 3 nights in Maui (Lahaina area), and 2 on the big island (Mauna Kea Resort area).
What should we do while we are there? I know we are definitely going to Pearl Harbor, but what else as far as luaus, shows, tours, hiking, parks, beaches, where to eat, where to shop, what not to miss etc.

Can’t give you much advise other than on Oahu… wish I could, maybe in the future.
Tons to do on Oahu. A must would be the Polynesian Cultural Center. Great fun, especially the show at night. My family loves pineapple so a quick stop at the Dole Pineapple plantation for chili dogs with pineapple or pineapple ice cream and cotton candy are a must.
I myself am a World War II buff so obviously love Pearl Harbor, but also enjoyed going to the Cemetary of the Pacific in the Punchbowl.
There is also Hanauma Bay for snorkling and The Flea Market at Aloha Stadium. And never forget about the shopping and eating in Waikiki.
Hope this helps

I can only give you some advice as to what to do in Oahu.thats the only island I went to…theres tons to do there your right and since you have only 4 days there I hope you can go see as much as you can…. make sure you take plenty of sun screen. flip flops/sandles and walking sneakers. theres the Polynesian Culture center, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor(and when your done there go take the tour of the USS Missori its at Pearl Harbor), theres Laniki Beach(I hope I spelled that right) but you have to rent a car to go see it. theres the Pineapple plantation., we went to Guarmaines Luai, go see Waikiki beach, theres the Honolulu zoo, snorkling, make sure you try some shave ice, if you like cheeseburgers theres a place called Cheeseburger in Paradise its on the main drag of Waikiki, theres Dukes resturaunt, theres tons of shops, theres these stores they have there called the ABC stores you will ALOT of them…..

Oahu – snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, hike Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor (Arizona Memorial), catamaran ride off Waikiki beach, see the surfers on the North Shore, Sunset Beach, Lanikai Beach, Waikiki Beach
Maui – Old Lahaina Luau, ‘Iao Needle, Maui Ocean Center, sunrise on Haleakala, road to Hana, Wailea beach
Big Island – volcano, Place of Refuge, Pacific Tsunami museum, Painted Church, Hapuna Beach, green sands beach, Punalu’u black sand beach
This is just a list of suggestions. If you do all of this, your head will be spinning and you won’t have time to truly enjoy your vacation. Pick a few things you are most interested in and don’t forget to just relax and enjoy the sunsets, the beaches, the smells, and the air.
Aloha

I can only advise on Waikiki/Downtown. The can’t miss is Pearl Harbor then get out of town-the “circle island tour” where you get around the island. I found the beauty and fun is away from downtown-get out. Do not miss -Hanauama Bay, Blow hole, Sandy’s beach (look, don’t swim) Punchbowl, Byodo-In Buddhist Temple. Bring warm clothes too-the trade winds can be chilly at times which we never expected. Be prepared to witness poverty and drugs and at times filthy places in paradise along with awe inspiring views and unforgettable people.

there is tons of things to do in Hawaii. Well oahu offers many fun activities for tourists. We have the Sea Life Park, Hawaiian Waters Park, Pineapple Plantation with a crazy maze, definately check out the waves at the beachs including Pipeline, Ala Moana shopping center(biggest shopping mall of all islands), and submarine tours. Go to Haleiwa and buy some shave ice from Matsumoto’s Shave Ice. My uncle runs the store. Shop at Wikiki. There are so many store there. The luxury stores like Gucci, Prada, and others luxury stores.
Duke’s is a great lunch place in wikiki. there are many lunch and dinner restaurants to eat at. Wikiki has so many hotels.
I been to Big Island many times. I do recommend the Hawaii National Park . they have a lodge there too. Take a tour to see the lava. the volcano is still active. In Kona there are lots of shops and dining places. Check out Hilo if u go. small city. shops and dining places. big island doesn’t have that many homes as Oahu does. Oahu is overcrowed.
any other questions just e-mail me.
