Mahina Surf on Maui is my favorite place to stay. It's nothing like a big resort, yet you're not entirely secluded. Also, no little brats running around ;)

All you have to do is enter all inclusive hawaii vacation in web search and you will have all the answers. If you go don't forget the Big Island, it is a wonderful place and the people are friendly and they have a beautiful zoo and gardens on the Hilo side.

My husband and I just got back from spending a week on Oahu. We had a blast and we agreed that the smartest thing we did was take a Grand Circle Tour the first full day we were there. (Lots of sites book them-we found one for $50 each) Roberts Hawaii took us around on a small bus with about 12 other people and our guide was so informative and knowledgable. He took us to all the major spots as well as some that weren't as well known. He even gave us all a map so we could make notes on places we liked and wanted to revisit later, which we did. The tour took most of the day - we got picked up at 7:15 and dropped off at 4 - but we really enjoyed it. We didn't really enjoy the Polynesian Cultural Center as much (maybe we're just not the 'cultural' kind of people) but that and Hanauma Bay for snorkeling were some of our best decisions during the week. Be sure to visit the Banzai Pipeline to watch the pros surf the big waves! That was really neat and the beach wasn't as crowded as the ones closer to Waikiki.

Maui is bigger than Oahu, but there are less than 120,000 people living on Maui and more than 900,000 people living on Oahu. For what you want to do, I think you want to be on Maui.

I lived on Oahu for four years. I live on Molokai now and travel to Maui frequently for business and sometimes just to play. I'm just going to link some things you'd like based on my experience and your stated interests. By the way, there are no bad Thai restaurants on Maui.

I am recommending the Hana side for a good chunk of your stay, but it will be up to whether you want to drive the infamous Road to Hana, or fly from OGG to HNM in a 9-seater plane. Those are great for photography, but you may want to wait until after your flight before you eat, I'm just saying. One of the airlines asks you to please take your aloha bag with you if you leave the plane. Of course, some folks find the endless curves and one-lane bridges of the land route to be just as unsettling.

I won't recommend a snorkeling spot because the best conditions will depend on the weather and surf. But ask the guys at Snorkel Bob's where they would go if they weren't working today.

One of the hotels--the one in Lahaina is a little bit different from everything else. Yes, it's kitschy. Yes, every room seems to have a hula girl lamp and a sign that extols the virtues of doing nothing and then resting afterwards. Some of them have beaded curtains. But, most or all have kitchens and sitting rooms, and it's right on the sea wall, so you can fall asleep lulled by the sounds of the ocean waves. If it's for you, you'll love it. If not, you'll skip it. But I've stayed there six or seven times.

For a more romantic, less crowded, not so touristy type of place......I recommend Maui.

For fun activities with lots of people...I suggest Waikiki, Oahu.

Either way you can all activities on all of the islands!!

For bed & breakfast type places....windward Oahu has beautiful quiet ones!!!

This answer is largely going to depend on yoru budget. If you can afford it, Maui is no ka oi (none better). But if you are on a budget, Waikiki is probably your best bet.
Wherever you go, you'll have a wonderful time.

You want to go to Oahu and stay in Waikiki. The big hotels are all facing the famous Waikiki Beach. Nightlife is there, as well as around other parts of town.

Snorkeling is something you can do at Hanauma Bay.

Aloha!

I would recommend either Oahu or Maui.

The most populated island with the most variety is Oahu. On Oahu you can go to the major city areas of Honolulu or Waikiki, and you can also see the beautiful North shore countryside where all the major surf competitions in the world are held. I am a resident of Hawaii, and having lived on Oahu for 5 years, I would recommend Oahu. If you look in the classified section of the Honolulu advertiser, you can find great vacation rentals on the North shore where you can go snorkeling at Sharks cove, and see some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Or, if you prefer to stay in the city, you can go snorkeling at the largest fish sighting spot on the island Hanauma Bay. If you are going in the winter, you will not be able to swim on the north shore beaches or snorkel at sharks cove because of the huge waves. But Waikiki and Hanauma bay on the other side of Oahu are available for swimming all year round due to the consistently small waves.

There are many interesting things to see on Oahu, if you like history, take a tour of Pearl Harbor in Honolulu. In Laie, you can go to the Polynesian Cultural center for a night show luau and see Polynesian dancers from all over the many islands:
In Haleiwa, you encounter an old surf town with a rich history and fun shops. You can go to the Dole plantation near Haleiwa and tour one of the largest mazes in the world and taste sweet fresh pineapple prepared in an endless variety of ways:
You can go skydiving right next to Haleiwa in Mokuleia
I went to this exact place for skydiving, and it was a blast!
You can dive with the sharks in the Haleiwa harbor
For the most bang for your buck, I recommend Oahu, and if you want a more countryside atmosphere, try to stay on the north shore.

Also, most airlines only offer a direct flight to Oahu (Honolulu). So you will probably have to switch planes if you want to go to Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island.

Maui is an extremely beautiful island, but it has no major city. Also, it is larger, so the beaches are more spread out. Kauai is smaller than Oahu and Maui, but probably one of the most beautiful islands. If you want to see only rain forest and beaches, and don't mind a little remoteness and lack of touristy type accommodations, go here. The big island is the largest and most environmentally diverse of the islands. You can see black, red, and green sand beaches here, and also you can hike out to an active volcano and see lava flowing into the water.

It is a tough decision, but for a first time trip, I would definitely say go to Oahu, and stay on or visit the north shore.

I also recommend looking at a Lonely Planet guide book or the equivalent to get the most out of your trip.

Aloha, good luck!

Kauai is the best island for you based on the activities and qualities you mentioned. I've been to Oahu and Maui as well, but liked Kauai the very best for scenery, hiking, uncrowded and absolutely beautiful. It's easy to drive to the various scenic spots. Some roads are narrow and one lane over bridges so don't expect to drive fast and you really won't enjoy the scenery if you do.

Okay, I went when I was about 8 a couple years ago. Most likely you will walk from your hotel to the beach. Thebeaches are extremely safe if you find a section of a beach designed for safety. If you look at this picture, see where there are rocks around the water that look like a half circle? Predators such as sharks cant get in that section. Niether can Jelly Fish.

Up against those rocks is great for snorkeling. Maybe buy some salt water fish pellets to attract fish. The water isnt calm anytime of the year. It is always visable though. April is a perfect time to go...unless actually that is spring break? Other than that the only people at the beach are People who live there. I will warn you it rains EVERYDAY around 10 in the morning for a coulple minutes. It is not hard at all though :) It actually may not rain in Mauai though...it does in Kauai.
I hope you have a safe and Fun trip!

April is a perfect time to go…unless actually that is spring break? Other than that the only people at the beach are People who live there. I will warn you it rains EVERYDAY around 10 in the morning for a coulple minutes. It is not hard at all though It actually may not rain in Mauai though…it does in Kauai.
I hope you have a safe and Fun trip!

~~Aloha JLB~~
I took my 2 teens and 1 almost teen, (ages at the time were, 11,13 and 16), last Summer for 3 weeks to Oahu and Maui.
1.Most beaches on Maui are safe, but as you know any body of water has a potential for danger...there is nothing like a parents watchful eye.My 13 year old son made friends with a group of Local Boys who took him Spear-Fishing,Cliff Diving and Snorkeling...Black Rock is a Great area for Snorkeling and Diving,it is relatively safe with alot of beautiful Marine Life you all will enjoy.
2.Black Rock is located right by the Sheraton Maui and that is a favorite place of alot of people...even the locals go there. If you want a deeper water snorkel,Snuba or Scuba experience then I suggest Molokini Crater..great place to dive. There are Charters that go out daily...my kids love it here.
3.The weather in April is beautiful as it is pretty much throughout the year...waters are calm as is the weather...you will get your typical Tropical Showers but that is Hawai'i...
4."Is there a better time to go"? No,not really...April is good...we have been at all different times of the year and have always been happy with our experience regardless of the time of year...Of course during the Winter, Hawai'ian water and waves are more treacherous.
Aloha,Enjoy Maui..E Komo Mai!

I traveled to Kauai, Hawaii and absolutely loved it. From what i saw and what i have heard it is the most natural beauty. Very scenic and more untouched. There were several waterfalls i hiked to and also some great views and beaches. I would definitely take a look into Kauai.

i went to maui in the summer and it was awesome. there were so many rainbows and things and the beach was very safe and no giant waves for the boys or anybody to get swept away in. as far as for surfing, the waves **** but yeah it might be a little wet in April since its spring and all but just have fun you can't worry too much about these things!

My wife and I had a great time at a cheap(inexpensive) inn at St. John (US Virgin Island- plane to Charlotte-Amelie St. Thomas, ferry to St. John). It cost $1 to ride to the other side of the island; you don't need to reent a car. My wife and I enjoyed a new sport sniking- hiking in to a beautiful beach and then picnicing then snorkeling. It was amazing and the whole coral reef around this gentle and slow island is a National Park!! Great place- iwant to keep exploring but I think we found the gem of the world. (By the way- I found your question by typing some key words into google; I am also looking for the same recommendation/endorsement). Try your local scuba shop.

I would like to say in advance Welcome to my Country Of Dominica if The island is Your choice.
If you are coming from the united states and want to fly throu Dominica you can Take The American airlnes which would Take you to Peurto Rico where you would then catch the Americn Eagle which woudl lead you directly here in Dominica.(www.aa.com)u can book on this site and all.
When it comes to hiking and Sight Seeing Dominica is # 1.reasons being
that we have so many tall mountains with ancient trails- the highest at 4 747ft.We are the most mountainous of the windward islands and have the highest concentration of volcanic mountains per area in the world.
There are many one- of- a kind sites like the boiling lake right in the interior of the island in one of our National park which is a World heritage site.
In addition to the The boiling lake we also have sulpher springs and pools, fresh water lakes and uncountable waterflalls- this due to the 365 rivers and the very rugged terrain. Many of the waterfalls are very private and romantic (wink wink)lol.
We were awarded by the readers choice magazine 2007 as the 2nd best atlantic destination for scuba diving
We are also branded as the Whale watching capital of the Caribbean
There is on the island # of activities to do besides snorkelling/scuba divingand hiking-
There is river tubing and also and spending the day at our adventure park.
Atv and horse back riding
Soaking in one of our unique natural spas from the earth(our sulpher pools and springs)
Taking boat rides on our famous Indian river(which was one of teh sites they filmed pirates of the Caribbean) and aslo on our fresh water lakes.Kayaking services are provided and the websites i provide below will give u links to these services and much more.
Our beaches are not overcorwded seeing that we are not an overcommercialised tourist place and the reason being beacsue we dont have white sand beache however more and more tourists are begining to discover and love our black and honey-coloured beaches because they are clean small peaceful and private.
If you are loking for a PRIVATE hotel with pampering spas then we are the ideal. The island of Dominca Doesnt invest in big 5 star hotels but rather in small private ones nestled in the forests because the Island promotes Eco tourism. One of the resorts u can look at is the Jungle Bay Resort(all this u will find on the webistes i provide below)
i can go on and on but jsu view these websites and u will see that really The island of Dominica is What you are looking for
